The Conference
This webpage contains all the essential information regarding the FOBISIA 2014 MUN conference as such. Apart from the conference schedule and key dates, delegates and MUN directors will also find the conference preparation booklet and the application forms for (Deputy) Chair positions on this web page. We hope that you find the information useful and trust that delegates will familiarise themselves with the preparation booklet before their arrival in Brunei. Even though it is not essential, we encourage delegates to contribute to the blog page of this website and share their ideas with delegates from other FOBISIA schools before attending the conference. Schools will be notified via e-mail regarding their assignment allocations and a list of the latter will be published on this website in due course. For more information regarding the United Nations as such, delegates could consult the excellent United Nations News Centre.
The Conference Theme:
This year's conference theme, 'Global Inequality', finds its origins in the UN millennium goals. Thirteen years have progressed since the official establishment of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty rates to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education; all by the target date of 2015. All 189 United Nations member states and at least 23 international organizations have agreed to achieve these goals by the year 2015. The advancements made by different nations and organizations over the years have differed markedly. At this year’s FOBISIA MUN conference, with a firm reflective stance, we will re-evaluate the global successes and drawbacks encountered, regarding the MDGs. We will assess what the world has achieved to reduce disparity and make equal what is unequal. After all, the UN have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world's poorest. Likewise, we aspire to avoid perpetual recycling of ideas and resolutions. Our fundamental goal is to depute our delegates to venture in an innovative and prospective approach. Ultimately with copious ambition, we aim to explicate of what has past, and envisage the approaching future.

Due to popular demand: Dress code and Climate advice
Due to popular demand, we would like to highlight some key pointers about the appropriate dress code for FOBISIA MUN 2014. It may good to know that even though Brunei is a tropical country, our classrooms and lecture theatres are heavily air-conditioned and that delegates or teachers will not need to walk long distances during the conference. It is entirely possible to look smart without being sweaty and uncomfortable.
- Brunei is an Islamic country. It is essential that delegates dress modestly during the conference. Interpretations of the word 'modest' are obviously culture specific. Contrary to some other MUN conferences, delegates should ensure that knees and shoulders are covered during the conference. Excessive cleavage is also considered inappropriate.
- As representatives of the United Nations, students are required to dress smartly. For male delegates this entails long trousers, a shirt and a tie. For female delegates this translates as a smart skirt/smart long trousers and a shirt or a smart dress. Most delegates will wish to wear jackets as well.
- Your outfit should be neutral and not distracting the aims of the conference. School uniforms, group T-shirts, caps or hats, national dress, crazy hair styles etc are not allowed.
- The social event is held in a private club, which means that the constraints of Brunei will not be as stringent for that particular evening. Nevertheless, students should remember that the conference is part of a school event and that inappropriate or offencive clothing will not be allowed.
- For more information on how to dress in the host country outside the confines of the conference, have a look at the section on the host country on the accommodation page.
